A-Z Challenge: Why I Love Being Catholic (B)

The challenge is on.  Write a post each day in April (minus Sundays) using the letters of the alphabet as your guide.

The theme I have chosen is "Why I Love Being Catholic".

Let's continue.

B-Blessed Mother--The Mother of Jesus, the Mother of God.

Bible:  Luke 1:48  "From now on all ages will call me blessed".
John 19:26-27 When Jesus saw his mother and the other disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son." Then he said to the disciple, "Behold your mother."

Personal: Catholics have been attacked for "worshiping Mary".  We do not worship her.  We honor her.  God chose her as the immaculate vessel for the Incarnation of the Word.  She was the catalyst as Jesus performed his first miracle (hello intercession!).  Honoring her makes sense.

But aside from all of that, to me Mary is simply a mother.  A protector.  Unconditionally loving. Asking her to pray for me is no different than asking a friend or loved one to pray for me.  She has special favor with Jesus. (Luke 1:28!! "Hail, favored one!")

She brings me closer to her son.

  1. Hi Kathleen! Happy Divine Mercy Sunday! (Another great reason to be a Catholic!!)
I love our Blessed Mother too, she has traveled with me into many situations. If not for her, I know I would have caused a lot more train wrecks than I have already!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

  2. Kathleen, you have written this perfectly. Have you ever read Fr. Gaitley's 30 Days to Morning Glory? It's a consecration to Mary.
