Ordinary Is Extraordinary

I woke up this morning feeling Matthew crawl over my legs and under the covers into the spot that had been vacated by Bill.  Once the blurry vision cleared, I saw the light from the bathroom shine through the door that was slightly opened.

Inside I could see Bill, standing at the sink already dressed for work.  His back to me, I could see the sharp way he tucked in his dress shirt--military tuck--just like he learned in the Navy.

I remember what my mom always said: "There's nothing more handsome than a man in suit."  She was right.

I watched him tie his tie.  I thought, "Boy, am I lucky."

I turned to the right of me to see Matthew who was already asleep, and again I thought, "Boy, am I lucky."

It is in these moments-- these simple, simple moments, that bring joy to my life as long as I remember to let them.

  1. Beautiful, my friend.
    And true.
I find as I get older, I recognize and appreciate these moments more. : )
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. The people in our lives are so dang precious. It hurts sometimes how much we love them..or if anything ever happened to them. Love those precious moments...AND handsome husbands...zowee!

  3. Absolutely wonderful. I loved it.

  4. Our partner is always lucky to us and we are lucky to them. Enjoyed reading your post!

  5. Hi Kathleen! Being grateful is a powerful grace, filling us with such joy. And there you were, half asleep, feeling that grace and joy come rushing in. What a blessing! And you are so blessed in your husband and children. Enjoy!
    Happy Friday :)

  6. Kathleen, this is a lovely post! Just beautiful!!

  7. I love this post, Kathleen. You have taken a beautiful "snapshot" of the extraordinary in the ordinary!

  8. Hello,
I came over from Billie Jo's blog. You have such a sweet-looking group of children. And this little thought about your husband is sweet, too. I must agree with your mother as well.

    :) Hope
